Change is the only thing that remains constant in different aspects of life, that being jobs, industries, places, and airplanes too.

The path that technology opens in the aviation field is tremendous and the changes that the airplanes have gone through since the time the Wright brothers started with it until today’s modern and comfortable airliners. And the future has more to give us in regards of aircraft.

New generations of airplanes with more advanced instruments, gadgets and parts will make them more and more reliable, which will mean that the interval between maintenance checks will be longer.

Normally, one can think that this fact will create a lower demand of technicians for the new generations of airplanes, however, the truth is more surprising.

Growth in the demand of technicians

New markets emerging and becoming more competitive, plus the industry overall growth, will actually create a steady curve of growth in the demand of technicians, despite the new aircraft being more reliable.

In specific, the aforementioned scenario will encourage the increase of the global fleet of airplanes (more markets, more people that need planes) besides the forecasted scenario for the current trend of outsourcing maintenance by the operators, which will continue and grow.

In numbers, the Long Term Market Boeing report states that only the Asia Pacific region will require more than 260,000 new technicians during the next 20 years and worldwide, the number goes up to 679,000 technicians.

The opportunity for technical schools

Schools dedicated to the educations of aviation technicians must pay attention to this kind of forecasts since they can show the path to follow in the years to come. More demand from the industries requires better and more effective recruiting processes from the schools, so they can meet the growing demand with quality technicians.
